Exploring the open world of Hogwarts Legacy reveals dozens of environmental puzzles known as Merlin Trials. Completing these challenges is essential for expanding your inventory capacity, allowing you to carry more gear throughout your journey. Each trial requires specific spells and observation skills to solve the environmental clues nearby.
Large Stone Sphere Trials
One common trial involves locating a giant stone marble and rolling it into a nearby bowl-shaped depression in the ground. Players can use Depulso to push the sphere over long distances or across rough terrain. In steep areas, carefully planning the direction of your force ensures the ball settles smoothly into its target socket.
Pillar and Brazier Challenges
Another frequent puzzle requires lighting several stone braziers before their flames extinguish upon touching the ground. Using basic fire spells like Incendio works well for close targets, while Confringo reaches distant pillars quickly. Speed and positioning are crucial, as all braziers must burn simultaneously to succeed.
Exploding and Repairing Stone Pillars
Some trials present players with fragile stone pillars marked with green runes that must be destroyed. Casting Confringo or Bombarda quickly shatters these structures to fulfill the requirement. Other variations flip this mechanic by asking players to rebuild broken statues using the Reparo spell.
Moth Swarm Navigation
Moth trials require players to locate small glowing swarms in the surrounding wilderness. Casting Lumos attracts the insects to your wand, allowing you to guide them toward stone pillars carved with moth shapes. Once brought near the pillar, turning off your wand releases the moths and completes the trial.
Symbol Matching Cube Towers
Puzzle towers consisting of stacked stone cubes require players to match the symbols on the top block with the bottom base. Casting Flipendo rotates the upper block in different directions until all faces align correctly. Paying close attention to the orientation of the symbols ensures a quick resolution to the challenge.
